PETA training and consultancy are recruiting for a product developer at Poole Lighting limited

Poole Lighting is home to a passionate group of exceptional people who are proud to design, manufacture and supply a wide range of in-demand and on-trend residential and commercial lighting. Our wide range of interior and exterior lighting includes everything from LED and smart lighting to stunning centrepiece crystal collections.

You will learn about all aspects of the design and development process. You will work with the design team to ensure that their ideas are realised in an effective way. You will learn how to review prototype samples feeding back to manufacturing any issues. This will include using your excellent eye for detail to identify problems and solutions.

  • Learn how to create, update and maintain product specifications from prototype designs and existing products
  • Become competent checking specifications against drawings, existing products and other criteria specific to customers and products
  • Learn how to ensure all products adhere to standards and legislation
  • Become competent liaising with the design team reviewing pre-selected products
  • Learn how to maintain accurate customer portals and keep them updated with development
  • Become competent liaising with factories on sample development and product manufacture
  • Learn how to check samples against product specification and update when necessary.
  • Become competent risk assessing samples and share any potential issues with Product team
  • Learn how to problem solve any issues that arise regarding quality assurance, technical problems and design specifications
  • Assist Customer Services with customer enquiries
  • Become competent working with the Warehouse team, supply chain and procurement to ensure an efficient final delivery to the customer
  • Work independently and as part of the team to help improve the company database and workflow process
  • Become involved in customer meetings for product signoffs and quality assurance approvals
  • Eventually your will be included in handover meetings passing prototypes to the NPI team and ensuring all comments and responsibilities are outlined
  • This will include taking an active role in VC meetings with China team to coordinate their work schedule for relevant customer accounts

  • You will possess strong excellent communication skills enabling you to work with all internal departments, suppliers and customers through e-mail, phone and face to face meetings
  • You will have good IT skills being proficient using Microsoft Excel and Word software packages

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalents at grade A*-C (9-4) to include maths, English, Science
  • BTEC level 3 engineering qualification will be looked upon favourably.
  • Any relevant FE qualifications

The Company is based in Poole you must be able to get yourself onsite safely and reliably. We will support your travel costs to PETA's training facility.

Training to be provided

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship, you will be required to attend PETA Limited's Havant training centre for off the job training. The majority of your development training will be completed at Poole Lighting.

You will be employed whilst you are completing your Apprenticeship; this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA where you will complete your level 2 Advanced Manufacture Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification.

This will include;

  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Conducting business improvement activities

You will then pass through the Gateway and progress onto your Level 3 development programme and complete:

  • Pearson Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufact
