About the role
Our paper mill in Prudhoe contains a vast array of machinery and equipment and is home to two paper machines, seven converting lines, a fibre recycling plant and an international distribution centre.
On site we manufacture tissue paper through our paper machines which are larger than a jumbo jet, the machine speed is faster than the motorway speed limit, and the process involves recycling paper, water and energy. Converting lines turn the tissue paper into the finished product for onward despatch to a variety of customers. The site runs 24/7. Key to its success is that the machinery is well maintained and reliable. Innovation and sustainability are important to us. Continuous improvement creates projects that you may have the opportunity to be part of as an apprentice.
Our technical engineering apprenticeship will over a five-year period equip you with the skills to reach the level of skilled shift operations maintenance technician and allow you to contribute to the continued success of the business.

What you will do
You will develop your skills through a mix of on-the-job training as well as gaining formal qualifications through college attendance. Whilst at work you will be putting your learnings into practice, working with an experienced and friendly team who are keen to support you.
This advanced apprenticeship programme will initially focus on both electrical and mechanical engineering. After five years you should be equipped with the knowledge and experience to be appointed to a role as a shift operations maintenance technician.
You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician. As part of this apprenticeship you will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma (either mechanical or electrical). If you demonstrate the right level of knowledge growth and commitment during your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to study for a Level 4 HNC Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) qualification in the final two years.
In the first year of the apprenticeship you will attend college full time with on-site work placements at regular intervals. In years two to five you will work Monday to Friday on site which will include a day per week at our partner college, Gateshead College.

Who are you?
We would love to hear from you if you have;
- A minimum of 5 GCSE's at grades 5 / C including maths (at grade 6/B), English and a science (essential),
- Strong IT literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft office products
- The ability to work well under pressure ensuring deadlines are met and outcomes monitored
- A logical and methodical approach to problem solving
- Strong communication skills - both verbal and written
- A flexible but solutions focussed approach
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
