Controls Engineering Apprentice £14k (p.a)

During this 4 year apprenticeship, you will develop various skills in controls engineering. Leading to opportunities within our controls realisation team in the future. The apprenticeship will provide you with a fully funded, nationally recognised qualification of a Level 3 Diploma in AME (Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Product Design and Development) and a BTEC level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

As one of our Apprentices, you will spend the first 42 weeks working full time in a training environment allowing you to gain the foundational skills required. Year 2 you will be working within the business alongside fully qualified engineers, with block release to college to complete your BTEC.

During Years 2 - 4 you will spend time working in various areas of the business, providing you with a good understanding of how we work, our products and procedures. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of estimation, electrical design, PLC coding, Emulation, Commissioning and testing of automated control systems.

We believe that our Controls Engineering Apprentices are essential to the future of our controls team and the success of our business. As part of this team you will be gain experience in all aspects of the controls engineering assisting with electrical design, preparing software and commissioning our automated materials handling solutions.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have the skills needed to support and assist in the provision of:

  • Electrical design, including creation of circuit diagrams
  • PLC code preparation, emulation and testing
  • Actively work with the Commissioning Engineers in testing system modules as required
  • Actively working with the Controls Services Managers to plan tasks and ensure the PLC area being commissioned adheres to project schedule
  • Identify and manage the rectification of any hardware and electrical faults
  • Ensuring electrical installations meet the required TGW standards
  • Completing all required commissioning documentation to the required standard
Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake engineering training as directed by the business
  • Attend our training partners facilities to undertake Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) training and maintain a portfolio of work
  • Work in a safe manner and follow all health & safety requirements including Risk Assessment,About You Safe System Of Work and Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health requirements
  • Maintain and submit an accurate weekly timesheet
  • Develop knowledge of TGW, its departments and products
  • Have visibility and working knowledge of the TGW cultural charter
  • Be responsible for own travel to and from site
  • Actively engage with your mentor
  • Whilst on-site, carry out work as directed by the lead engineer
