Job Description

The FHLB Des Moines Employee Communications Summer Intern will play an important role in supporting the Bank's internal communications efforts and external community relations efforts. The intern will gain extensive communications and event planning experience by leading and assisting in a variety of initiatives.

Responsibilities include:
  • Creating content for multiple audiences and communication channels, including print, web and social media.
  • Programming content for the Bank's digital communication channels, including online learning center, intranet and online newsletters
  • Maintaining content and making routine updates to the Bank's intranet.
  • Acting as resident photographer for Bank-related events.
  • Helping create video and other multimedia for internal Bank communication channels.
  • Partnering with Employee Communications and Community Relations leaders to learn and apply integrated communication planning techniques and campaign development.
  • Working with internal business partners to achieve communication goals.
  • Supporting community relations activities and events.
  • Assisting in the creation and execution of communication plans in support of Bank initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Junior or senior working toward a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a requirement.
  • Works in a team-oriented environment and also independently to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to apply creative problem solving in a communication environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with WordPress is a plus, but not required.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Basic photography knowledge; video experience is a plus, but not required.
*This paid internship runs from mid-May through mid-August 2020, with the potential to stay on through May 2021.
