Human Resources Intern Des Moines, Iowa

The FHLB Des Moines Human Resources Summer Intern will play an important role in supporting a variety of Human Resources activities. The intern will gain extensive experience in employee engagement, recruiting, learning and development, onboarding, wellness and exposure to various HR initiatives.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting creation of learning and development programs
  • Providing assistance with online learning center and supporting Bank's mentoring program
  • Assisting with recruiting activities - applicant screening, interview scheduling, attending recruiting/networking events and social media planning
  • Coordinating wellness activities, planning future events and revising intranet content
  • Researching best practices for various HR projects and initiatives
  • Serving as the lead support/coordinator for the summer internship program
  • Assisting with engagement survey, results analysis and department action planning
  • Gathering and summarizing onboarding and exit survey results
  • Revising content for HR internet pages
  • Supporting the Bank's immigration process
  • Assisting HR in the resolution of employee relations issues and special projects
  • Updating the Employee Handbook and researching user-friendly ways for employees to access policy information
  • Creating and updating various department procedures
Qualifications:
  • Junior or senior working toward a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business, Management, Psychology, Education/Training or related degree
  • Excellent communication, relational, interpersonal and presentation skills are required
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and an eye toward details
  • Ability to apply creative problem solving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience conducting research and summarizing results/suggestions
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and also independently, with moderate level of direction, to accomplish tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with Workday and Cornerstone are a plus
*This is a full-time paid summer internship that begins in mid-May 2020 through mid-August 2020, with the opportunity to extend into the fall on a part-time basis.
