About the Internship

The HR Intern will directly assist the HR Team with a wide range of projects that could be related to recruitment, compliance, training and benefits, including coordination of intern events and wellness initiatives. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting. The goal of the internship is to gain a better understanding of the role that HR and benefits play in a manufacturing environment and to be better prepared to work in HR or a related field.

ELLWOOD is in New Castle, PA, has an opening for a HR Intern in our HR Department. This internship is a paid, non-exempt hourly position. The hours will be Monday- Friday 8 am- 5 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch. The intern can work part-time hours during the school year and full-time during the summer months. The HR Intern will support the HR Department and learn the practical application of, and be responsible for, the following functions, including but not limited to:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complete special projects as assigned; examples of projects and responsibilities may include:
    • Researching best practices, developing an internal HR communication plan, recruiting/university outreach, HR compliance, benefits/wellness, training focus groups, etc.);
    • Coordinating summer intern events and activities;
    • Assisting HR team members in coordinating meetings and conferences (collecting data, developing agendas and presentations, etc.);
    • Researching new laws and regulations and making recommendations for applicability / implementation;
    • Assist with the preparation of HR and benefits documents, record statistics& handle confidential information;
    • Record, maintain& retrieve data in both written& electronic format; and
    • Create spreadsheets, charts, and presentations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of one (1) year of college with in HR, Business Management major or related field;
  • Completed at least one (1) year of entry level related courses;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including excellent telephone skills;
  • Analytical and detail oriented with both an interest and aptitude to work in HR;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Well organized with ability to prioritize and multi-task in order to handle numerous assignments simultaneously;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications to include working knowledge of spreadsheets and pivot tables;
  • Ability to work independently (self-directed);
  • Ability to adjust to continuously changing environment; and
  • Be a team player.
