Mechanical Engineer Intern Dearborn , Michigan

AK Steel Dearborn Works is currently seeking Mechanical Engineering students to participate in our 2020 Summer Internship Program. Mechanical Engineers are vital members of our maintenance teams throughout the mill, and Mechanical Engineer Interns will gain experience with a wide variety of equipment and processes during their service.
Potential Aspects & Responsibilities:
• Participate in the development, engineering, and execution of capital improvements including projects associated with the making, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, and coating of steel and working in the office and field with fellow engineering colleagues
• Participate in technical investigations, bench marking, design, and analysis of the performance of the various equipment and processes to identify deficiencies, antiquation, and the potential for benefits and improvements working with experienced and knowledgeable fellow engineers
• Exposure and training on the key aspects of industrial safety
• Develop and hone project management skills through the mentoring of fellow mechanical engineers
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and fellow engineers on equipment delay problem solving, root cause analysis, trouble-shooting, and effective solutions to prevent reoccurrence

The ideal candidate will have:

- Sophomore status or higher within a Mechanical Engineering program

- 3.0 or higher GPA

- A desire to learn operations and processes within the steel industry

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office

- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills

Summer internships run May through August and are 40+ hour/week paid positions.
