What do we do?
Fairlie Healthcare is a leading provider of high-quality care which was established in 1999. We specialise in caring for young adults with neurological conditions, as well as patients with tracheostomies and who require ventilator support.
We currently have two homes, Fairlie House which is in West Norwood and Highfield House which is located in Purley. Both homes have achieved the highest rating from the Care Quality Commission and we continually strive to maintain our 'Outstanding' rating.
We have big plans and are currently building a brand-new care home which is located in the outskirts of Banstead which is due to open in Spring 2020. With this in mind, it's a fantastic time to join our friendly team where you can really make a difference to the lives of others.
We are currently looking for a Junior Activity Coordinator to join our Highfield House home located in Purley which can be accessible via our free minibus service we offer to our staff for the start and end of your shift.
Our home is a 45-bed purpose-built centre providing specialist care to adults with a range of complex conditions.

What will I be doing?
As a Junior Activity Coordinator, you will be responsible for the leisure and recreational case load allocated by the Home Manager & on-site therapy team to restore our residents to the highest levels of physical, cognitive, psychological and social independence as possible.
You will be responsible for a wide range of duties and responsibilities and these include:
* Using a variety of meaningful activities for our residents including arts & crafts, animals, garden, sports, games, dance & movement, drama, music, community outings and more
* To improve & also maintain the physical, mental and emotional well-being of our residents
* Assisting residents with different recreation/ leisure to alleviate depression, anxiety, stress and to improve basic motor functioning
* Responsible for providing a timetable of varied activities to accommodate all interests
* Recognising and respecting residents as individuals with the same rights, needs and emotions as everyone else, promoting the dignity and self-esteem of residents at all times
* Assisting residents with their disabilities and to integrate into the community by teaching them how to use community resources
* Facilitating residents to participate in structured group programs
* Obtaining residents information from observations, medical records, standardised leisure/ recreation assessments, other staff and their families
* Caringly instructing residents in relaxation techniques to reduce the level of stress and tension, muscle stretching exercises and active/ active assisted/ resisted exercised through a variety of recreational activities by using internal and external resources
* Responsible for assisting registered therapist(s) (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist and music therapist) to develop residents recreation/ leisure care plans whilst focusing on residents physical, social and psycho-social health needs
* Escorting and planning residents for outdoor recreation/ leisure activities and the ability to carry out basic nursing care (e.g. emptying urinary bag, feeding tracheal care) during outdoor activities
* Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries in all interactions with residents, families and carers
* Risk assessment of all situations, ensuring appropriate action is taken and reporting all incidents, near misses and hazards
What do I need to succeed in this role?
For this role we require the following attributes for the ideal candidate:
Essential
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- 1 years' experience working within a care / nursing / residential home or hospital setting
- Excellent knowledge of British cultural events
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Effective prioritisation of workload
- Excellent communication skills
- Cheerful and compassionate disposition
- Ability to interact within a multi-disciplinary team
- Motivational attitude
- Creative with great enthusiasm
- Organised and possess a sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving abilities

- Ability to travel to our sister home as required
Desirable
- Short courses relating to care homes / activities
- NVQ in health and social care
- 1 years' experience of working within a team
- 1 years' experience gained within events/ activity
- 1 years' experience of working with challenging behaviours
- Knowledge about neurological conditions
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check.
