Job Information

The Sales Trainee is responsible for supporting the prospecting, development, maintenance and enhancement of sales relationships with assigned producers in line with their leader. It is expected that this role is an interim position in which an individual is learning and developing to move into a Sales Representative position.

Sales Development

  • Partner with Sales Manager and team to build relationships with brokers to increase opportunities and ensure our products and services meet their needs
  • Job shadow on product and sales meetings such as individual and group training sessions, seminars, workshops, webinars and meetings to deliver product solutions
  • Attend social gatherings as appropriate to support the growth of relationships with brokers and clients both new and potential
  • Provide service to policyholders and brokers as appropriate

Relationship Management

  • Communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with all organizational levels to accomplish objectives
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, internal partners, and external parties to strategically align resources that deliver optimal territory sales results
  • Represent the company in a highly professional manner
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with NSO team to discuss sales/service within assigned territory
  • Build a relationship with Voluntary, Absence Management and Japanese Market Practice Leaders as well as the Medical Stop Loss, Limited Medical Benefit RSL teams and other Tokio Marine companies to understand the best way to utilize their expertise for sales

Sales Administration

  • Adhere to established administrative procedures and company underwriting guidelines while soliciting and securing profitable business
  • Support sales office in achieving 85%+ case persistency
  • Understand each role in the region and actively participate in job shadowing
  • Learn the basic roles and responsibilities of the service team to help support them and your assigned Sales mentor with day to day service issues
  • Complete online trainings and attend and actively participate in face to face trainings
  • Utilize Salesforce to capture relevant emails/documents
  • Manage expenses in the expense system with timeliness

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Related Experience

  • Fluent in English and Japanese.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • 1 - 2 years of sales experience ideal
  • Life and health license required.
  • Knowledgeable on fundamental concepts, principles and practices of the life insurance and disability industry and voluntary products preferred
  • Sales and/or relationship management experience required
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to productively schedule time and organize around priorities
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to observe, recognize and courteously adapt communication and approach to facilitate expansion opportunities
  • Ability and willingness to learn and grow into a sales representative
  • Knowledge of MS Office products and ability to learn all internal systems as appropriate
