Description Benefits Supplemental QuestionsPosition Summary:Interns will gain experience working in municipal government, including working with managers, division directors and other staff on a regular basis. The Intern will participate and work with the Human Resources staff on a variety of task.Position Scope:The Human Resources Intern will directly assist the Human Resources Department with a range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, risk management, onboarding/orientation and employee benefits. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills he or she may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting.Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties: Interns will perform tasks as assigned by the Human Resources/Risk Manager Director and/or HR staff, including but not limited to:* Provide support during the new hire on-boarding process and assist with employee orientation.* Maintain accuracy of, and update employee personnel files in accordance with company policies.* Understanding of payroll and benefits processes.* Assist in the construction and improvement of company policies and procedures.* Assist in development and delivery of employee training programs.* Help coordinate the completion of the performance management process and ensure timely completion and filing of all related documents.* Aid in the coordination of employee leaves of absence such as FMLA.* Assist with benefits administration such as adding/terminating coverage and open enrollment.* Assist with recruitment, screening and interview processes.* Assist in planning and executing wellness initiatives for City staff.* Provide support for Worker's Compensation claims such as filing first reports of injury, updating documentation and follow-up with employees.* Assist with special projects as needed.* Performing related duties as assigned.Additional Information:This position may encounter not public/confidential data in the course of these duties.
