Role Overview:

Working with both private and public sector clients, management, and the wider I&G and Sewell family, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop knowledge across all sectors.

The Trainee Estimator will be responsible for supporting and taking on pre-contract and tender activity across a range of projects, whilst providing general day to day support to the business.

As the role develops the successful candidate will be involved in actively meeting the challenges that come with being a key player in the success of cultivating business relationships.

  • On a day to day basis, the successful candidate will;
  • Support the team to deliver all tender activity including; preparation and submission
  • Obtain best value and analyse sub-contract and supplier prices
  • Support the procurement of sub-contract works including coordinating documentation and compliance
  • Attend pre-contract site meetings as the role develops
  • Attend tender review meetings
  • Effective communication with clients, suppliers, external consultants and colleagues through to senior management
  • Support the team to prepare high quality bids
  • Identify new suppliers and opportunities; proactively seek to streamline purchasing functions
  • Play an integral role in supporting the estimating and management team

Skills and Attributes

As well as fitting into the I&G family culture, the successful candidate will have the following;

Essential skills:

  • A full driving licence, valid in the UK and have own car.
  • Keen interest in the Construction sector
  • Strong Maths and English skills
  • Be competent in using Microsoft packages; Excel, Word & Outlook.
  • Have a keen interest to further develop their career within this sector and in a commercial role
  • Ability to work using own initiative but also as part of a close knit team.
  • Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required).
  • Hold excellent communication, organisation and time management skills
  • A positive and professional attitude.
Desirable:
  • Alongside the above, further desirable skills for this position are:
  • Have previous experience within the construction sector
  • Formal commercial or construction related qualification
