Rolling Stock Maintenance Apprentice Machynlleth, Powys £17k (p.a)

Transport for Wales are recruiting an apprentice to join their Fleet Engineering team based at Machynlleth Depot.

This is an exciting opportunity during which you will complete an engineering apprenticeship in Traction and Rolling Stock. Your training will take 4 years during which you will be required to obtain a level 3 NVQ and complete an engineering qualification up to HNC or equivalent.

You can expect to carry out tasks involving both mechanical and electrical disciplines on a variety of trains operated by TFW. These tasks will include schedule d maintenance, fault investigation and rectification. You will also be trained to carry out major component changes such as bogies, wheelsets. engines and transmissions.

Important for the role, once trained, is your ability to utilise a variety of computer software packages in order to maintain, test and interrogate components and systems that help run our vehicles safely and efficiently.

We are looking for people with a passion for engineering, great communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. We are committed to delivering great customer service both internally and externally, so your customer focus must also be high.

To apply you will need at least 5 x A*-C GCSE's and these must include English, Maths and Science or Engineering. We would be particularly interested to receive applications from candidates who have further education qualifications such as A-Levels, BTEC or equivalent but most importantly you will be enthusiastic and keen for a career within engineering.

Please note this is a safety critical role and candidates must have reached the age 18 on the 1st July 20 21 in order to apply as the second year will involve shift work, including nights.

The environment and tasks can on times be challenging however, if you are passionate about engineering a Traction and Rolling Stock apprenticeship will be extremely rewarding.

The starting salary for this apprenticeship is £16,700 increasing throughout training. Progression through the apprenticeship programme is subject to performance both in college and in the workplace.
