The Opportunity:

Over 2 years, you'll study for a Security Management qualification whilst working within the Corporate Security Team.

Within the scheme, you'll follow the Apprentice Security First Line Manager standard, which is a formal Level 3 Standard apprenticeship, as well as Security Guard Force Management, Physical Security, Personnel Security, Information Security and Project Management.

This unique security apprenticeship course is a rare opportunity to become a trained 1st Line Security Manager. The programme will develop knowledge, application, skills, experience and behaviours required to supervise security personnel and manage site security in line with regulatory requirements. It includes teaching of risk assessments, providing security advice, understanding threat vulnerability and risk management, security operational and incident management.

You must be committed to 20% of 'in work' training hours, for a period up to 2 years and it is essential to undertake Level 2 English and maths functional skills if you're unable to provide certificates of exemption. You must also be able to commit to completing the "End Point Assessment (EPA)", within three months of the learning period completion for all standards.

When not studying, you will be required to:

  • Effectively undertake a fully comprehensive support role in support of the Company Security Manager
  • To develop skills, knowledge and experience to support in the development and update of the Security Management Plans and Procedures; including Site Security Plan Reviews
  • Support in the risk assessment and risk management of various threats to the business
  • Track Security Incidents and reports
  • Assist in the completion of annual physical site security audits
  • Act as liaison between stakeholders, facility management and service providers and Corporate Security Management
  • Attend security meetings on behalf of Corporate Security Management
  • Support key security projects; including security system upgrades
  • Maintain and develop awareness of current security systems technology including; access control systems, CCTV systems and intruder detection systems
  • Learn about other areas of the business through short projects and travel to corporate estate sites

As you progress through your apprenticeship you will gain more knowledge and experience.

With this, you'll be expected to take on more responsibility to:

  • Be responsible for specific corporate wide technical security systems
  • Oversight and management of designated site security
  • Represent the Security Team at security forums and events
  • Be responsible for aspects of Corporate Security i.e. Access Control

The Location:

During the apprenticeship you will be working within a team based in Barnwood, Gloucester and reporting directly to the Company Security Manager. You will be based at EDF Barnwood, Gloucestershire.

The Skills:

Essential

  • Three GCSE's at Grade 4 or above) including English
  • Willingness to travel where required
  • Dynamic, self-motivated
  • IT literate
  • Passion for, and awareness of security, for example current threats and vulnerabilities
  • Willingness to attend apprenticeship training and study in own time to achieve the degree
