Gustavo Mattos Sao Paulo

Project Manager, Networker, Salesman

About Me

I worked as a Business Development Manager / Project Manager at the British Council Brazil running both Education UK brand and Services for International Education Marketing (SIEM). There, I had developed specific skills and expertise in Higher Education recruitment, liaising with key stakeholders from both the local and overseas markets. I was involved in the establishment of high-level connections, front-end strategic links, contacting overseas institutions interested in local partnerships to build a better future through education. Through this direct communication with people from all parts of the world I was able to build a wide network of different views on the international educational sector.nnDetailed and precise information is imperative when recruiting in large markets such as Brazil. In order to reach large numbers of Brazilian students under the Education UK actions, I focused on online strategies, social media network tactics, prize draws, nationwide online campaigns, active profile pages leveraging social media channels, as well as strong links with the agent market, such that I could benefit from the capillary reach in-country and broaden the market impact.nnBesides exploiting digital channels, I also ran face-to-face events, including Education UK Exhibitions, now considered the largest UK-only exhibition in the Americas, with an approval rate of 98% from both exhibitors and prospective students. This rating depicts a good reflection of my management procedures. My detailed project plans map out relevant KPIs, milestones, priorities and deadlines. In order keep them all on track, I monitor the progress of actions with respect of each project, identifying and mitigating risks, updating and where necessary re-evaluating priorities. The vulnerability of the recruitment sector to changing visa regulations, new entry requirements and varying economic conditions is very common. In this scenario, a flexible agenda setting for projects is extremely important.nnAll these projects combined equated to an annual gross revenue of £500k – exceeding expectations by 128%, an accumulated business growth of 261% during my management.nA combination of superlative team management, together with carefully detailed advance planning and project management skills, enabled me to deliver these projects successfully.nI also managed a large amount of data: 50,000 student leads from all over the country, collected in every Education UK action, and more than 3,000 contacts of professionals from the local sector and suppliers. This management includes a high level knowledge of mailing and survey tools.nnDuring this recent experience, I have had the opportunity to exchange ideas and practices with local teams in the Americas and the UK. The contacts I developed locally and the networking I had undertaken were substantial in order to maintain a good knowledge of the market and to exploit new opportunities. All of these travels have enhanced my communication and interpersonal skills when it comes to international negotiation. I have been able to put into practice a range of techniques I learnt in university and on extracurricular courses in the field of negotiation.nnI strongly believe I am ready for a next step in my career, following my passion for worldwide connections. I am unquestionably convinced that my recent experience makes me able to provide an incredibly useful contribution to my next role.nnThank you for your attention.nnGustavo Mattos
