Business Development Manager Job Description

Business development managers do exactly what the job title tells you – develop a business and help it to grow.

The job is all about identifying leads, pitching to new clients and ensuring that customers both established and prospective enjoy a good working relationship with you and your company.

Day to day duties involve recognising possible new clients and setting up meetings, writing reports and preparing presentations and keeping senior management in the loop.

It’s a job for great communicators who understand business and marketing, who can demonstrate initiative, have negotiation skills and a real can-do attitude. These attributes (and any sales and marketing experience you have) count far more than academic achievement.

Having said that, you’ll need GCSEs and a relevant degree could propel you on to graduate programmes that some bigger companies will run. A valid driving licence is also needed.
